Global Expertise for Mongolian Hearts: Swiss Surgeon Supports “Heart Remembers” Project

Swiss cardiac surgeon Thierry Carrel is supporting the "Heart Remembers" project and, together with Dr. B. Boldsaikhan, is performing surgeries on children with congenital heart defects. Dr. Carrel, one of the world's top surgeons, is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, as well as various international and national professional associations. In addition to performing surgeries, he has also founded the Karolina and EuroAsia Heart Foundations, which provide free surgeries for children without financial means.

By joining the "Heart Remembers " project, it will be possible to introduce five types of surgeries that were previously unavailable in our country. Dr. Thierry mentioned that by collaborating with the project, they plan to provide technical assistance, include medical teams in exchange programs, and offer training.

Dr. Boldsaikhan stated that Dr. Thierry is a legendary surgeon not only in Switzerland but also in Europe, and there is much to learn from him. For example, this is his third visit since last autumn. We have started performing new surgeries. For the first time in Mongolia, we are performing the Fontan-1 Glenn procedure on children with single ventricles and almost no tricuspid valve, which was previously very difficult. Yesterday, Dr. Thierry performed the surgery, and today I did it myself.
