To Little Hearts in Beyond

Through its latest community initiative, the EBRD in Mongolia is supporting Bundan NGO organising free medical checks for children with the congenital heart disease in all provinces and remote areas of Mongolia. Those children which require heart surgery are transported to the capital and referred to a sister NGO Heart Remembers, which collects charitable donations to cover the cost of these operations. The Bank will match qualifying funds raised by the employees of its Ulaanbaatar Resident Office and the community, so they can be used for the acquisition of portable diagnostic equipment and treatment. “Bundan” specialists will be able to travel across Mongolia and diagnose children with this cardio condition early.

A grandfather travelled over 9 hours to drive along a 645-kilometere road through the Gobi Desert to get Mongolia’s capital city, to take his grandson Bat-Od examined by a specialist doctor. This tiresome journey was a necessity: the little boy had a congenital heart disease with a 1.5-centimetre hole and required a complicated and urgent heart surgery because the condition was diagnosed too late. The hope was faint not least because the poor grandfather could only offer yak clarified butter and milk vodka as a form of payment for this operation. He was extremely lucky to meet NGO volunteers Anar and his wife, who offered to pay Bat- Od’s surgery.

Half a year later Mr. Ch.Anar travelled to Bayankhongor together with a group of doctors from the Bundan NGO, he is engaged with, and could examine little Bat-Od. The boy was making a good recovery, looked healthy and smiled as all children of his age should do. This story wouldn’t have had a happy ending had Bundan and Heart Remembers NGOs not been involved.

Your donation will make a life-saving difference for little heart warriors!
